COLORS

Colors are like one of those little lights

that you hang on your porch to keep bugs away,

those blue ones that look a little scary to small children,

but they still want to touch it.

The sky is blue.

Almost but not exactly,

because it is more white than blue,

so one might say it is white with a hint of blue in it.

Just as eyes are white with a hint of green.

Colors shine from melted metal used to make rings,

With their names on them.

Colors are bright, like a newborn baby in an overly lit hospital room,

filled with strangers it doesn’t know,

but then it hears that one heartbeat it recognizes.

Colors engulf us, and leave us.
